How is Tea Graded?

Tea grading is used to signify the grade of leaf solely by appearance. Orange Pekoe is not a type or flavor of tea, by simply the leaf size. (OP) refers to a larger leaf particles, or whole leaves. (BOP) refers to Broken Orange Pekoe, and designates a grade that is of smaller particles. These acronymns have no strict correlation to value or flavor. It's about what will or will not pass throug the particular gauge sieve. Finer particles steep more quickly.

Technically, tea (black, white, green, oolong) comes from the Camellia Sinensis evergreen plant. How the size and position of the leaf on the stem determines the grade of tea.
