Yerba Maté
Yerba Maté, an evergreen member of the holly family grows wild in Paraguay, Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Brazil, but is now cultivated in many tropical countries. The leaves are used nutritionally and medicinally; usually ground and steeped in hot water for several minutes and served hot or cold. Maté is Spanish for gourd, the shape of the special cups in which it is served. Yerba Maté has medium to high levels of caffeine.
